Prof. Hans Clevers is Director of the Hubrecht Institute, The Dutch Institute for Developmental Biology (KNAW) in Utrecht and Professor Molecular Genetics at the University of Utrecht. Prof. Clevers is co-founder of the biomedical companies Crucell and Semaia. In addition, Prof. Clevers is a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences and is a board member of multiple biomedical organizations. He is recipient of several awards including the Dutch Spinoza Award in 2001, the Louis Jeantet Prize in 2004, the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Katharina Berkan Judd Award in 2005 and the Israeli Rabbi Shai Shacknai Memorial Prize in 2006. He is Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur since 2005. Prof. Clevers received his MD from the University of Utrecht in 1984 and his PhD from the same university in 1985, studying signal transduction in T lymphocytes. After a four-year period at Harvard University, he returned to Utrecht Medical Center in Utrecht where he became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine (1991-2002). Prof. Clevers has published in a great number of high ranking journals such as Nature, Science and Cell.
